We had a few patriotic blankets that had been done and all were beautiful. We started another one to do in Red White and Blue in honor of the Olympics and it's called 'Go USA'. I thought, why don't we do one in the colors of the rings in the Olympics symbol, and call it Summer Olympics. They liked the idea and asked me to start it. I found the perfect blue when Sandy, Larissa and Michelle met for our NC get together in August. (We raided AC Moore!)

I just finished it tonight and will mail it to the next knitter, who will do yellow, tomorrow.

Catching up on Charity knitting pictures!

I am FINALLY making the time to update this with some pictures. I've worked on a few blankets since I posted last.

I was asked to pinch hit on a Preemie blanket. My first Preemie. I was sent the yarn and needles so that I could cast on and get 'Lavendars Blue' started:

(This picture is after the second knitter - I did the light purple.)

And here is Lavendars Blue completed.

Since that yarn was given to me, I thought it completely appropriate to use on another blanket. They go to Childrens Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.

Here is the blog for the baby blankets:

http://babyoddball.blogspot.com/

Here is snippet from the post about the first delivery:

"Long story short, sorry it's been a few days, but here is what happened.

I cried, even before I got here, lol. They are so appreciative of everything and anything. They welcomed them and look forward to any and all we send. I couldn't get a pic of a child w/ blanket due to lots of rules & regs, & privacy which I know we all respect.

The hospital was so gracious, and thankful -- I cried like a baby.

The fact that some of the children come in with nothing from car wrecks, broken homes, abuse, etc shook me to the core. These blankets will give love and comfort to those that needed them most. The hospital is so totally devoted to these kids, and they truly care about the kids. They are so overwhelmed with kids needing help whose parents can't afford due to the economy. It broke my heart to hear some of the stories. I can't believe the impact something as simple as a blanket will make to some of these kids.

It just made me more determined to knit faster for these kids. They send the blankets on helicopters, surgery, everywere. The kids can become attached and keep them with them. Thanks to all who have & is participating in this wonderful cause.

Big bear Hugs to all "

Charity Knitting

Thoughout the past year or so I've been knitting for various Charities, most of them being the Oddball Blankets from my knitting forum on KnittingHelp.com. (LOVE that site, by the way -- awesome 'how to' videos.)

The way the Oddball Blankets work, one knitter in the group starts a blanket, and chooses any color, any pattern. They then knit for about 3". When they are finished with their section, they mail it to the next person on the list who in turn chooses any color, any pattern. It's a great way to clean up your stash, since you don't need that much yarn to complete your section. You probably have enough in a leftover color to do it.

The Adult sized blankets seemed to take me a LONG time to finish - I think there were 300 stitches per row, 3" long. Then I saw the same idea (on the same forum) for Oddball Baby Blankets. Wow, much easier to complete my section on that size! I think there are 100 stitches per row, and you knit for 4". There are 6 knitters on each of those. I've done two so far, have one here I'm working on, am in line for one, and am starting one. Whew!

It is so fulfilling to work on them - who doesn't have time to knit just 4"? Even with my busy/crazy schedule, I can sneak these in. After the last knitter finishes the section, they can then add a crochet border, or send it to someone who can. Then, finally, after all that love has gone into the blankets, they get sent to the woman who originated the idea in the first place. She collects about 10 at a time, and delivers them to a children's hospital in her area. Childrens Mercey Hospital, Kansas City MO.

Here are some pictures of what I've worked on so far:

I will post a pictures from when I received it in the mail, with my section, and also the completed blanket.

PEPPY PASTELS:

NEON FUN:

Oops, I forgot to take a picture of Neon Fun when I received. I have been wanting to make it for SO long but I wouldn't start it until I finished a few other ongoing projects. I picked out a bunch of different colors of yarn and just made different sized stripes. I finished it a few weeks ago, and then needed to make SIX FEET of I-Cord, which took awhile. I FINALLY finished that last night. Here is a picture of the 'finished' product, before felting.

Tonight I felted everything. I put both the bag and the icord in a zippered pillow case, thew it in with some jeans and towels and washed it twice on hot / cold.
Here it is after the second load. I have it hanging upside down on only one of the boxes. The picture above (before felting) shows it over two boxes.

I'm pretty excited! I read a lot of the forums, especially the charity ones. That led me to 'Wyoming Breezes' blogspot and the Pay it Forward exchange.By accepting her invitation, I promised to provide the same opportunity to receive a handmade gift to my blog readers. I hope that you will be moved to leave a comment and join the fun. It’s the Pay It Forward Exchange. It’s based on the concept of the movie “Pay it Forward” where acts or deeds of kindness are done without expecting something in return, just passing it on, with hope that the recipients of the acts of kindness are passed on.So, here’s how it works. I will make and send a handmade gift to the first 3 people who leave a comment to this post on my blog requesting to join this Pay It Forward exchange. I do not know what that gift will be yet, and it won’t be sent this month, but it will be sent (within 3 months) and that’s a promise! What you have to do in return, then, is Pay It Forward by making the same promise on your blog.I will now Pay It Forward to the first THREE individuals who accept my offer and leave a comment. Then, one day, you will get a gift that I have made especially for YOU! I promise not to delay too long in getting it made and sent. To accept this challenge, you don’t have to knit or crochet. Anyone who can make a nice handmade gift is welcome to join. And, remember…you have 3 - 6 months to get your gifts done!If you’re interested, leave a comment, and I’ll email you to get your mailing address.

First and Foremost!

(I'm recreating some of these posts on this blog site. I wanted to give knitting related posts a place all for themselves!)

Wowza!! I did it! I've been seeing so many blogs about knitting that I FINALLY decided to start my own. It's pretty neat to have an ongoing theme/subject to post about, so I'll give a shot!I learned to knit two years ago this month! One of the girls at work taught me, and I have been overwhelminly addicted ever since! She showed me the English way, where you hold the yarn in your right hand, and constantly let go of the needles to wrap the yarn around it. Well, I found the site 'knittinghelp.com' within that very first week and quickly learned how to knit the Continental way by watching the videos. I liked that way a LOT better. It seemed quicker and flowed easier. I now hold the yarn in my left hand, and never let go of the needle. Pretty nifty!I have really enjoyed knitting for others the most. In fact, most of what I knit IS for others!! I will post pictures of everything eventually. I knit for charity, for friends, for relatives, and even for relatives of friends! How funny is that?? OK, that's it for now. I haven't even uploaded my first blog, and I already can't wait to update it!!
